GTV First Loop: Capitol Reef National Park

From our boondock spot just down Norton-Bullfrog road, we headed into Capital Reef National Park for the day.

First a quick hike up into Cohab Canyon.

Then south into the Grand Wash.

From Goosenecks Overlook.

By late afternoon we were ready to move on, hoping to check out some hikes in the Dixie National Forest. But as it turned out, deer hunting season was in full swing. Attempts to find things to wear that were orange were fruitless, but at least we found some free air.

Views back across the park from route 12 were stunning.

From Boulder we continued down 12 into the Grand Staircase / Escalante National Monument, and somehow snagged the very last site at Calf Creek Campground.
