GTV First Loop: Snowed Out, on to Arcata

We awoke in Death Valley to 90 degree temps and a fierce dust storm which started
in the middle of the night. Everything in the van is now dusty.

Back towards the valle, we headed west for Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks...

...but it was again, not to be.
A huge snowstorm was closing all of the passes across the Sierras.

So we headed to Mammoth Lakes to wait it out, where we played in the snow,
explored the local microbrews, and watched the Sox take game 5. Could be worse.

The next morning we were all business - the plan was to get out of the hills,
so we headed north on 395, along Lake Tahoe and then towards Arcata on 229,
stopping at the empty Steel Bridge Campground. Big day of driving.

GTV First Loop: Vegas, Baby. And Death Valley

The morning after. Fun was had, and we're glad we went.
But we won't be rushing back, except maybe for breakfast.

After breakfast, a quick hike out at Red Rocks

Death Valley

A bit desolate, but happy to be back in California - the local store had Stone IPA.

GTV First Loop: Grand Canyon

South Kaibob Trail

Despite the dire warnings, the river was reachable in a day, in fact four hours round trip with a stop for lunch

Making calls to Vegas - but we couldn't find a pet friendly hotel anywhere.
Instead we found an RV park - on the strip!
